Maiyshla is a health promotion professional and mental health advocate from Mauritius. She lived in Australia for five years, collecting various enriching life experiences. She has experience in working with vulnerable communities. She worked as Drug and Alcohol Prevention Officer (Western Australia), Project Coordinator for Wellbeing Intervention (Northern Territory) and Program Officer for HIV/AIDS prevention (Mauritius). She has also volunteered on numerous committees such as Kalgoorlie Local Drug Action Group, headspace Youth Advisory Council and the Australian Health Promotion Association.

Maiyshla is currently involved with a Mauritian social enterprise called Mind Matters Mauritius, helping to break the stigma and open conversations around mental health and wellbeing.

As a young leader, she is also the Vice-Curator of the Mauritian chapter of the Global Shapers Community Port-Louis Hub. She strongly believes in the power of young people to drive dialogue, action and change.

Maiyshla's interest in mental health began after participating in the Catalyst Youth Summit in Perth organised by the Youth Affairs Council of Western Australia. She got the opportunity to interact with young people of migrant and refugee backgrounds on the topic of mental health and realised how privileged she was.

As Youth Advisor on Orygen Global Advisory Council, Maiyshla hopes to keep enriching her knowledge, make meaningful global connections and provide her unique perspective. She is convinced that it is only by building alliances and developing networks that we can create the groundswell that is necessary to turn the tide in the youth mental health space around the world.
