Former Prime Minister of Denmark 1993-2001
Poul Nyrup Rasmussen was first elected to the Danish Parliament in 1988 for the Social Democratic Party, he went on to chair the party before becoming Prime Minister in 1993 – a position he held until November 2001. He became a MEP in 2004 where he sat on the Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee and the Foreign Affairs Committee until June 2009. Since 2004 Poul has been President of the Party of European Social Democrats. In 2009 Poul became the chairman of Det Sociale Netværk (the Social Network), an association working to establish a higher level of openness concerning people with mental illnesses and their relatives and has held the role of patron of the association since 2015.
