Our team regularly shares this work through free public events and across sectors such as mental health, marketing, and design.

2 Apr 2025 - #chatsafe for Communities

To launch our new guide, in May 2025, “#chatsafe for Communities: using social media for suicide prevention and postvention”, we invited professionals from local governments, community organisations and the mental health sector to share how this new guide can be used to support young people’s safe communication about self-harm and suicide.

In this webinar from 2024, Dr Louise La Sala spoke with social media influencer Alessia Alfree about how to create safe content about mental health, self-harm and suicide. This event was organised with AiMCO (Australian Influence Marketing Council).

21 Sep 2021 - Sharing our work in Oslo, Norway

In this public event from 2023, Professor Jo Robinson and Dr Louise La Sala talked about the team’s work in secondary schools across the north and west of Melbourne and their pioneering work in youth participation in suicide research. The visit was hosted by The National Centre for Suicide Prevention in Norway and the Council for Mental Health.

11 Aug 2021 - #chatsafe for Parents & Carers webinar

This webinar from 2021 launched #chatsafe for Parents & Carers. With a panel made up by #chatsafe researcher, Dr Louise La Sala, a high school teacher, and a young person, the discussion focused on how parents and carers can support their young person to communicate safely on social media, especially when discussing their mental health, suicide, and self-harm.
