New Youth Prevention and Recovery Care (PARC) site at Parkville

7 October 2019

Orygen welcomes the announcement by the Minister for Mental Health, Martin Foley, of the Parkville location for the Youth Prevention and Recovery Care service (PARC).

The YPARC facility, due to be opened in 2021, will provide 20 residential beds in a short-term, recovery focused service for young people from North West Melbourne experiencing mental health issues. The facility will support young people who would benefit from step-down 24-hour care on discharge from hospital, as well as an alternative to a hospital admission where appropriate.

The facility will be located on Orygen’s main site at 35 Poplar Road Parkville. Orygen currently provides primary and specialist youth mental health care to young people with mild to moderate through to severe and complex mental health problems.

The addition of the PARC is another crucial piece of service infrastructure on the Parkville youth mental health site. It will enable young people to experience more coordinated and seamless care, and will provide opportunities to integrate the new service with the clinical, research and translation expertise of Orygen.
