Associate Professor Mario Alvarez-Jimenez recognised for research excellence

Associate Professor Mario Alvarez-Jimenez, Head of Online Interventions and Innovation Research at Orygen, The National Centre of Excellence in Youth Mental Health, will tonight be recognised with a National Health and Medical Research Council Research Excellence Award.

The NHMRC Research Excellence Awards are granted to researchers with the top ranked grant application in their category of research. Associate Professor Alvarez-Jimenez has been awarded the Highest ranked Career Development Fellowship - Clinical Level 1 for his work in developing an online intervention to help young people recover from their first episode of psychosis. He has pioneered the use of online social media to foster long-term recovery in youth mental health. His research focus is on relapse prevention and psychosocial recovery in youth mental health through online social media, mobile-based interventions and new models of positive psychotherapy.

The awards will be presented by Minister for Health Sussan Ley at the NHMRC Council dinner in Canberra this evening.
