More than 500 students from Kangan Institute Broadmeadows joined members of headspace Glenroy’s Youth Advisory Group (YAG) earlier this month to celebrate the recent headspace headcoach campaign.
The headcoach campaign provides young men with access to tips and advice from high-profile athletes from different sporting codes, on how to manage their mental health and wellbeing.
headspace community awareness officer Jacinta Vengtasamy said headspace Glenroy and Kangan Institute Broadmeadows had partnered on a number of key community events.
“At our headcoach event, students were open in asking for resources for themselves and for their family members,” Ms Vengtasamy said. “Some students approached us with their teachers to request posters and factsheets to be displayed in their classrooms.”
Chloe, a member of the youth advisory group said: “the day was lively and we all had a great time talking to all the students and teachers that came by”. “Many students even took it upon themselves to kick the balls around, encouraging others to join in for a quick exercise break in the middle of their school day. It was cool to see everyone joining in effortlessly.”
Ms Vengtasamy said community partnerships were an important part of the work undertaken at headspace Glenroy. “We look forward to nourishing our relationships by celebrating as much as we can together,” she said.
