This online training module will build your understanding of trauma and enable you to develop strategies to incorporate trauma-informed care when working with young people. The package is completed entirely online and will take approximately seven hours to complete across multiple sessions.
We highly recommend completing this training before other trauma-informed care training, as it lays the foundation for more specific training relevant to your organisational context.

TRAUMA-INFORMED CARE ONE-DAY TRAINING
Orygen's one-day Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) training builds workforce capability to recognise and respond to trauma in young people. It supports practitioners to understand the impact of trauma on development and behaviour, identify signs of trauma, apply practical trauma-informed strategies, and embed these principles into everyday practice and organisational systems.
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
Learning objectives for the day include:
- Describe the principles of trauma-informed care, including the impact of trauma on development and behaviour in young people.
- Identify common signs and symptoms of trauma in young people, including changes in behaviour, academic performance and social interaction.
- Recognise the importance of self-care and develop strategies to maintain personal wellbeing.
- Apply trauma-informed strategies and tools to support young people, such as creating safe and predictable environments, communication, appropriate boundaries, promoting positive relationships, and providing opportunities for choice and control.
- Develop strategies and processes to implement trauma-informed principles within your organisation.

Trauma informed care (TIC) for organisations
This workshop is designed to support organisations in considering how to best to support young people who may have experienced trauma from a service level perspective. It aims to build the capacity of organisations in strengthening systems around trauma-informed care and practice by working through a tool kit and plan for improving TIC processes. This workshop can be purchased with TIC for individuals.
Audience: organisations/services/schools and professionals working directly with young people.
A training package includes the following topics:
- introduction to trauma and young people,
- understanding the principles of trauma informed care in youth settings,
- universal screening processes for trauma (if applicable),
- vicarious trauma and self-care for the workforce,
- developing a whole service/organisation approach to implementing trauma informed principles.
Length of training: one day which is suitable for virtual platform or face-to-face workshop.

Trauma informed care (TIC) for clinicians
This workshop is designed for clinicians who work directly with young people who have experienced trauma.
It is a training package that can be adapted by services to meet their specific needs. It aims to build the skills and knowledge of clinicians working with young people in assessing, forming an understanding of and providing psycho-education for young people who have experienced trauma.
A training package can be built from the following topics:
- introduction to trauma and young people,
- understanding the principles of trauma informed care in youth settings,
- safely screening for trauma and its effects,
- managing safety when talking about trauma,
- understanding and addressing disassociation,
- using trauma psycho-education,
- case conceptualisation and formulation from a trauma perspective,
- trauma and psychosis,
- vicarious trauma and self-care for workers,
- developing a whole service/organisation approach to implementing trauma informed principles.
Audience: Targeting organisations where clinicians are working directly with young people.
Length of training: One or two days suitable for virtual platform or face to face workshop.
