headspace Glenroy joins community in tackling youth crime

headspace Glenroy has joined a consortium of services set up to address youth crime in the north-west of Melbourne.

Through Victorian Government funding secured last year, a consortium of community organisations implemented a project called The Broadmeadows Community Youth Justice Alliance. The goals of the project were to reduce offending behaviour and recidivism among participants by decreasing known crime-related risk factors and increasing protective factors, by achieving sustained improvement in engagement in school, training or employment and by increasing connectedness with community.

Alison McRoberts, clinical services manager at headspace Glenroy, said consortium partners had significant praise for the contributions senior access clinician Rita Moses had made to the project.”

“I would like to acknowledge and thank Rita for her commitment to this project,” Ms McRoberts said. “The success of this partnership lies in the way she has engaged with and supported the staff and young people.

“This is a good example of how a youth mental health service such as headspace Glenroy can undertake work with a strong community development focus to ensure better outcomes for young people and their families.”
