Responses to Appearance and Visual Evaluation in anorexia Nervosa (RAVEN)

About the RAVEN study

This study aims to investigate the eye movements and visual scanning patterns of young people with anorexia nervosa when they look at images of their own and other peoples’ bodies. This study will also explore the impact of appearance on self-esteem and self-worth in young people. Further, this will investigate rigid thinking styles in young people with anorexia nervosa compared to heathy young people.

What does the study involve?

Participation in this study involves attending a face-to-face session at Orygen in Parkville. Participants will complete an interview, self-report questionnaires, cognitive tasks, and eye tracking tasks during a two hour session.

All participants will be reimbursed with a $50 voucher for their time.

Am I eligible to take part?

We are looking for young people (aged 12-25) with a current diagnosis of anorexia nervosa and young people with no current or past mental illness diagnosis.

Other eligibility criteria include:

  • Identifies as female
  • Fluent in English
  • No history of a head injury or neurological condition
