DART-VR Study

DART-VR Study

DART-VR: Designing an Aggression Response Task in Virtual Reality

Investigator: Dr Alexandre Guerin

What does DART-VR aim to do?

Many children experience irritability and anger outbursts. In this project, we will design a new virtual reality environment and scenarios that provoke anger outbursts, where children will interact with virtual people in a safe and controlled environment. This is important to develop new treatments which will help children manage their irritability and anger outbursts.

This new virtual reality environment will be designed in collaboration with children and their parents or guardians, to make sure their voices are heard, and the environment is appropriate and user-friendly.

The project is a collaboration between researchers from Orygen and the University of Melbourne.

Study outline

Participation in this study takes approximately 60 to 120 minutes in total.

  • You and/or your child will meet online with a project team member for an interview. This will take approximately 60 minutes.

  • During the interview, we will ask you and/or your child questions about their experience with their irritability and anger outbursts.

  • Your child may also be asked to test the new virtual reality environment based on their interview and ask them for feedback to improve it. The testing sessions will be held in person at the Orygen Virtual Reality Lab in Parkville, Victoria.

Reimbursement

All participants will be reimbursed for their time and related expenses.

Eligibility

We are looking for:

  1. children aged between 10 and 15 years old who are irritable or have anger outbursts; or
