Youth in governance: Apply to become a youth advisor to the People and Remuneration Subcommittee

What is the opportunity?

The People and Remuneration Committee of the Orygen Board oversees key people issues and ensures that remuneration policies, practices and performance indicators are aligned with Orygen’s purpose, values and strategy.

We’re seeking two youth advisors to join Orygen’s People and Remuneration Committee. As a youth advisor to the committee, you’ll contribute to strategic decision-making by sharing ideas, perspectives and opinions on key people and remuneration matters.

The role will involve the following:  

  • attending governance coaching and training sessions 
  • reading all relevant papers in advance  
  • meeting with the chair of the People and Remuneration Committee or a delegate regularly 
  • attending a minimum of four People and Remuneration Committee Board meetings a year in person or virtually
  • constructively sharing your perspective during People and Remuneration Committee meetings.    

Who we are looking for

To be eligible, you:

  • Are a young person with lived experience of mental ill-health aged between 18 and 30 who share a passion for Orygen’s objectives and vision.
  • Are interested in governance and risk 
  • Are interested in people issues such as remuneration, executive or board of governance appointments and performance indicators. 
  • Have the desire to develop further leadership skills.
  • Can commit to a three-year term and attend all coaching and training opportunities.

We want the governance structures at Orygen to be as diverse as the young people we provide services to and support so we encourage you to apply if you meet the criteria above and:

  • Are from a culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) background 
  • Are a family member of a young person with mental health challenges

  • Live in regional, rural or remote area.

Application outcome

You’ll hear from one of the youth participation team within six to eight weeks after applications close.

If your application is shortlisted, we’ll invite you to up to two interviews with a youth participation staff member and key members of Orygen’s executive, board or the relevant subcommittee.

Orygen’s board will make the final decision based on your CV, application form and recommendations from interview panel members.
