I am a health educator working in global health education and global mental health programs in Singapore. I hold a Master of Public Health from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and am a certified Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) Instructor for suicide prevention gatekeeper training.

As a lived experience advocate, youth mental health advocacy is important to me because the potential impacts of poor mental health are very real and very present. I believe more can be done to strengthen prevention, expand intervention and support postvention efforts in youth mental health. Working to create positive change is my way of finding purpose and making meaning from my experiences.

Suicide-specific stigma remains high and suicide literacy remains low in Singapore. People tend to shy away from talking about suicide in part due to these factors, but it is difficult to solve a problem we cannot talk about. As such, my project is seeking to destigmatise conversations about suicide and suicidal ideation, develop suicide-related content to integrate into existing mental health trainings and peer support programs, as well as pushing for training for journalists and media personnel on responsible reporting practices for suicide.
