The final webinar in a three-part series, this webinar will help mental health clinicians to feel more confident and equipped to work with clients presenting with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN). The webinar will focus on utilisation and implementation of strategies, particularly visual aids, to increase efficacy of clinical work and clients’ engagement in therapy.

Who is this webinar for?

This webinar is suitable for clinicians and researchers who work with young people in mental health services, primary care settings and other areas of health and human services.

What will you learn in this webinar?

  • Provide mental health clinicians with strategies they can add to their clinical toolkit to assist their work with young people who have SLCN including a variety of examples of visual aids they can adapt to their needs.
  • Demonstrate how strategies, particularly certain visual aids, can be applied during a psychotherapy session.
  • Increase mental health clinicians’ confidence in working with young people with SLCN.

Chantele Edlington, Discipline Senior Speech Pathologist, Monash Health Mental Health Program

Chantele completed her Bachelor of Speech Pathology in 2005 and holds a Master of Public Health. Since moving into the area of Mental Health she has worked across Perinatal and Adolescent inpatient services, community mental health services and paediatric consultation and liaison services within the Early In Life Mental Health Service at Monash Health. She is passionate about educating all mental health clinicians about the role of speech pathology in mental health and is actively working to encourage more speech pathologists into the field.

Laura Caire, Mental Health Clinician/Speech Pathologist, Early in Life Mental Health Service, Monash Health Mental Health Program.

Laura completed her Bachelor of Speech Pathology in 2001 and holds a Postgraduate Diploma of Mental Health Science (Forensic). She has worked in generic mental health clinician and discipline-specific roles across a number of settings including forensic and adolescent inpatient psychiatry, milieu (group) therapy, education, and youth justice. She also delivers annual guest lectures on mental health to Master of Speech Pathology students. Laura is particularly passionate about advocating for and supporting young people with behaviour and conduct disorders, as well as promoting the role speech pathologists play in the areas of mental health and justice.
